Early in 1952, William Parker, a wealthy automobile dealer in Detroit, Michigan, was distressed by the fact that families of police officers and firefighters killed in the line of duty were left with traumatic financial hardships. He realized that there needed to be an organized way to collect and build funds to aid these families. Subsequently, the concept of The Hundred Club was formed to financially assist families of firefighters and police officers touched by tragedy.
The Hundred Club of DuPage County established in September 1982, is a private, non-profit charitable organization incorporated under the laws of the State of Illinois. The Hundred Club of DuPage County offers assistance to families of law enforcement and firefighting personnel who have been killed, injured, or otherwise stricken while residing or working in the county. The members of the Hundred Club show the men and women who serve and protect us, that their sacrifices, their lives, and their families are important to us. We are dedicated to helping families of police officers and firefighters who put their lives on the line for us every day doing a dangerous job we cannot do ourselves.
Given a situation that warrants the response of the Hundred Club, representative visits the family within twenty-four hours to express sympathy and to present the grieving family with a check to assist with immediate cash needs. That first response, however, is not the last by the Hundred Club liaison. Follow-up visits are arranged to offer further appropriate financial assistance.
